Help us bring an end to the public use of fireworks in Edinburgh
There is now a good chance of securing a near total ban on the public use of fireworks in Edinburgh. We want that ban to protect both domestic and wild animals and birds, as well as people with stress related illnesses and those who are simply fed up with the noise, disruption and public disorder which occurs year after year for the weeks around Bonfire Night and Hogmanay.
The City of Edinburgh Council is holding a consultation on whether or not to make the whole city a Firework Control Zone (FCZ). Within these Zones, no use of fireworks would be allowed without a licence, unless the fireworks are part of a public display.
The Council is currently considering four individual zones (Calton Hill, Balerno, Niddrie and Seafield), and an alternative city-wide zone. The very best option, indeed the only workable option, is a city-wide zone.
If you live or work in Edinburgh we need you to complete the Council's consultation which is on this link.
Arguments to help you complete the Consultation are here.
The consultation is open until 23 August, but completing it as soon as possible would be best as early responses can be considered by the Culture and Communities Committee on 8 August.
If you do not live in Edinburgh, please ask anyone you know who does live there to take part as well.
So long as fireworks continue to be an unnecessary cause of distress to many, the efforts to restrict them as much as possible, if not seek an all out ban, must continue. Your support in these efforts is important.
Please continue to share with us any incidents you've experienced that have negatively impacted your loved ones, be they pets or people, and encourage others to do the same.
