Our campaigns
Read on to learn about our current campaigns that we support and are actively working on.
We also aim to support campaigns run by other animal welfare groups that align with our ethos by submitting consultations,
writing to government ministers in Scotland, England and Wales, and sharing updates on social media.
Bringing about effective change requires a collective effort.

How we choose our campaigns
We choose what issues to campaign on using two main criteria:
One: Is there a lack of awareness or appropriate level of response to the issue?
Whether contentious or legally complex or simply not deemed to be “bad enough”, we believe in standing up for all issues no matter how challenging or unpopular.
Two: Is the issue negating any one of the Five Freedoms of animal welfare?
Freedom from hunger, thirst and malnutrition
Freedom from fear and distress
Freedom from physical and thermal discomfort
Freedom from pain, injury and disease
Freedom to express normal patterns of behaviour.
How we campaign
Legislation & Policy
We work with lawmakers to influence policy and steer legislative action to address our concerns.
We meet with MPs and MSPs to discuss the problems we want to solve and make plans of how to protect against them in law.
We work at local, regional and national legislation level - depending on the nature of the issue.
We respond to government consultations on animal welfare-related issues and encourage our members & supporters to do the same.
Public Awareness
We strive to educate the public about particular instances of animal suffering or exploitation.
We spread the word about these issues through our social media channels, newsletters and website.
We engage with the press and media to call out cruelty when we see it through letters to the editor and opinion pieces.
We share petitions, letter templates, surveys and other affirmative actions people can take to address animal injustice.
Supporting Others
We work with fellow like-minded organisations on joint campaigns to pool resources and maximise impact.
We co-sign joint letters to government representatives.
We support at awareness raising events, from street demonstrations to conferences.
We spread the word about other animal welfare campaigns and how our members & supporters can do to help.
OUR CAMPAIGNS
Stop Shaving Tails of Draft Horses
We are campaigning to see an end to the unnecessary practice of shaving the tails of Clydesdales and Shires.
Sky Lanterns & Balloons
A campaign to bring about a ban on the release of sky lanterns and helium balloons in Scotland due to the damage inflicted on wild animals and their habitats.
Fireworks
A year-round campaign to stop the terror caused by the fires and explosions, and promote the many other forms of light display which are animal friendly.
Rodenticide
While some toxins used to kill rodents are already illegal, this is a campaign to criminalise all rodent poisons and find alternative means of control which don’t eradicate endangered species higher up the food chain.
Greyhound Racing
Working as part of a coalition of animal advocacy organisations to secure a phasing out of Greyhound racing in Scotland.
